when you’re so busy you feel like freaking out | 5 things to help

Spread the love

Those weeks… oh God… those weeks that only a prayer and cups of coffee help you get through because you’re so busy! Those weeks that you’re pushing everything else in your life to the side so that you can get XYZ done RIGHT NOW!

Seriously, how do these weeks pop up?! These insane weeks that you see coming like a 10-ton truck.

You can prepare all you want for the hit — but man, do they almost plow you over!

Or make you want to sell your kids, or move to the solitary life of a mountain women, or make you want to sleep in your car because … well, you’re in it so much already, why not!! AHAH!

This was definitely my week this past week. Every single day had something on it. On the go, on the run. Extra, extra, extra! Not all the things were insanely stressful — but it was all on the go.

But the events, “to-do’s”, and expectations HAD to be completed or I would let someone down. Not the regular “to-do’s” but the extras — social events, meetings, leadership training, outings, ordering, organizing, etc. Things that are not normally done in a month — I got to do in a week.

Sound familiar???

I bet!

I bet some version of this is so true for you! Drowning in the overwhelmed, with the panicky feeling in the center of your chest. Constantly on the go! But you come home, only to get changed to head out the door again. Wait, food!!! Don’t forget to grab a bite or maybe throw together a family supper?!

It’s physically exhausting because it’s out of the normal routine, but seriously — the mental exhaustion is more or less what does me in. I just want to come home and stare at a wall or watch 5 episodes on Netflix’s just to try to clear the brain out.

It’s that out of normal routine, panicky feeling — of JUST treading the waters that can make a week that is this crazy — feel like it’s going to last FOREVER.

1.When you’re so busy you feel like you’re going crazy – don’t

Keep your cool. While you’re in the middle of a stressful week and just because of the kids, home, and husband are familiar doesn’t mean you can unleash a reign of emotions all over them.

We all know it — but it still happens (my hand is waving over here) If you’re stressed coming home from a meeting take the drive home to practice deep breathing. Even making noises while you exhale,

If you’re stressed coming home from a meeting — take the drive home to practice deep breathing. Even making noises while you exhale. Noises like:”ahhhhhhhhhhhhh” can help release the tension that’s built up in your chest and causing the panicky feelings. If you need a cry, go ahead and cry as you drive home. Crying is a great way to release the emotional build up as well. If you don’t get the chance to release a little of the emotions … excuse yourself for a moment right away as you walk in the door. Head for the bathroom. Those walls won’t judge you or bother you for the 5mins you need to relieve that pressure in a healthy way!

2.When you’re so busy you feel like your head is spinning – make it stop

Deep breath. Grab a pen. What do you have to do today to make it come together and survive? Write it down. What

What do you have to do today to make it come together and survive? Write it down. What

Write it down.

What do you have to do today to prepare for tomorrow?

Write it down.

What should you be doing today that will never get done this week (ie; laundry) write it down for next week. and leave it there. Don’t worry about it unless you ran out of underwear, (then run a quick wash), but if you have enough clothes to wear through the craziness, then you can push off the laundry marathon for the aftermath.

Just make a brain dump list to stop the spinning thoughts.

3.When you’re so busy you feel like you are always behind – get ahead

In a crazy busy week, this can feel like the impossible.

“Get ahead!?” Seriously?!

Seriously. You can do it!!! How? By just a teensy bit. Drop all the unnecessary in your life for the moment. Instead of cooking a home-cooked meal, can you pick up a prepared something (or 2) from the grocery store for this week?

Instead of cleaning off the entire counter of dishes can you make sure that at least one load has gone through the dishwasher? Instead of cleaning the whole house can you quickly sweep under the dining room table and call it a day?

Cut out what you can and breathe, you can get to it all next week. When you have more time. No one is judging you from your messy kitchen counter tops. No one is scoring the level of home-cooked goodness that is set on your supper table.

Bare minimum. You can go over above and beyond next week. Promise!

4.When you’re so busy you feel like your life is out of control – make a plan

I LOVE making lists because seeing what I have to do on paper and breaking this huge crazy week down into baby steps makes me feel more in control.

Take 10 mins at the start of a crazy week. Writing down all the big goals, events and projects, you got going on. After that, write through your day planner (Google calendar?!) what baby step needs to be done and which days they need to be done by. Break everything down to a level that you know exactly what’s to get done today.

Make a plan… break it down into little pieces and you don’t have to try to remember everything but you only need to focus on today and what’s needed to be done today.

5.When you’re so busy you feel like you’re going non-stop – breath

Try , try , try to grab a little moment here and there. Snuggle for 5 mins with the hubby. Squeeze those kiddos in a squishy huge. Grab your devos and time yourself for 5mins. Close your eyes and breathe deeply the smell of your coffee before that morning sip. You get the picture. Just grab a little moment for you.

You get the picture. Just grab a little moment for you.

So while this week is flying by in a fit of craziness, hang on! It will soon be over and life will settle down again into the “normal” routine.

Don’t freak out all over your loved ones, but grab them in a hug. Smell that coffee before you drink it. Leave the laundry (except the underwear) till next week,  be sure to get as much sleep as you can. Living this crazy week. Embrace the crazy as much as you can by making a plan. Hang on — the week is nearly over! You can do it!

This is perfect and JUST what I need!! I have been so overwhelmed lately, for work especially since I work in a field that is directly working with the displaced residents of Harvey (and soon to be Irma). I have recently learned that it is OK to just say “no” and take a minute for myself, and often I do find that a really good cry is so therapeutic! Lovely list <3
